This is one of the most interesting cartoon i’ve found, which shows two different faces of Islam. One, which is evil and one which is not evil. And the terror is done by the one thats evil, which concludes that there are terror groups who has taken the name of Islam as to give a reason to their mission for why they committed such deeds. I will use this cartoon to make the connection on even thought there are terrorist groups linked to Islam not everyone can be consider terrorist by the Westerns or seen as a terrorist…

My reaction when I saw this image was that it looked like both these faces were “evil” and were fighting each other. This reaction is exactly what Said is making a point about and it is what the cartoon is also making a statement about. My first instinct was the orientalist thought of “they are both terrorists,” but when I took a closer look at the image I could see that the man on the left is calm and is holding hand up with his palm outstretched as if he is asking for peace with the other man. The violent man commands the viewer’s attention at first and he seems to be the dominant figure, and I see, as the viewer, that this is emphasizing the fact that the violent Muslim terrorists have commanded the attention of the US and of the world, but it is important to realize that there is still that peaceful side of Islam that wants nothing to do with the terrorists. This is a great image to use for your paper!
I really like this image too! It, like MaryClare says, illustrates the struggle between peaceful Muslims and those factions that have almost hijacked “Islam” by extreme violent terrorists. Don’t forget when writing your paper that rhetorical analysis is a methodology you can use as primary research in your argument. When defining terrorism at the beginning of your essay, should you decide to go that route, this image will come in handy to establish a credible ethos which shows that you recognize that most Muslims are not terrorists….
